Under pressure from the Purity Police, Livejournal have deleted a number of blogs and communities on their blogging website.
One of the pressure groups, Warriors for Innocence, “claims to track sites promoting pedophilia, the sexual abuse of minors, and other illegal activities.” (Mass deletion sparks Livejournal revolt – CNet news). But amongst the sites hit by the purge are writers’ communities, fan groups and sexual abuse support groups.
I’m not supporting child abuse or anything of that kind, but it’s not difficult to do a little research before pulling the plug. Livejournal acted in haste, and now they’re having to deal with the fallout.
This is censorship at its worst. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?
Oh wow. I had a LiveJournal blog for a few years, but stopped following LJ stuff a while back when I pulled the plug on the blog. I hadn’t heard about this at all. I wonder why they had such an extreme, knee-jerk reaction? Just doesn’t seem to be in keeping with the spirit of such a large, well-established social networking / blogging site…
